The Sherwood Forest neighborhood was initially farm land outside Winston Salem. Sherwood Forest was developed at the middle of the century as Winston Salem's booming tobacco and textile businesses flourished and pushed residential developments west past the neighborhoods of Buena Vista and Ardmore. At one point Sherwood Forest was home to a local racetrack! In the 1980's through the 2000's more homes were built on the north side of Peacehaven Rd in a collection of developments referred to as New Sherwood Forest giving Sherwood Forest the nickname by many locals "Old Sherwood Forest."
The Sherwood Forest Neighborhood was started in 1960's and is comprised of homes built between the 1950’s and 1970’s.
